When Shaq convinced Danzel to tune off with King Kong

In a segment on TNT’s Inside the NBA, O’Neal asked Washington to recite the iconic King Kong monologue from the actor’s critically acclaimed film Training Day. The film, a gritty crime thriller, was a commercial success, grossing over $104 million. Washington’s performance as the morally ambiguous detective Alonzo Harris earned him an Oscar for Best Actor.

Washington obliged O’Neal’s request, albeit with a few improvisations, making it even more entertaining for live television. He modified his dialogue resulting in laughter from everybody on screen You think you can do this to me? Shaq, you think you can do this to me?”

A message to the young millionaires of the NBA

But the interaction between O’Neal and Washington wasn’t just about reliving a cinematic moment. Washington, in a separate video, shared some sage advice for the young millionaires in the NBA. He emphasized the importance of gratitude, humility, and understanding of the source of one’s gifts.

“One of the most important lessons in life that you should know is to remember to have an attitude of gratitude, of humility. Understand where the gift comes from. It’s not mine. It’s been given to me by the grace of God. Use what I have. Use what you have to help others on your last day. You can’t take it with you, but you can leave it here. You’ll never see a U-haul behind a hearse,” Washington advised.
