The documentary ‘The Queen of Basketball’ was also nominated for the Oscars. Shaq revealed how he got to know about it in conversation with the director of the documentary, Ben Proudfoot.

He said, “I think it was a purposeful accident that I came across the film. I saw it. It was emailed to me. I was like, is this real? What is this? Who is she? How come I never heard of this? It must be real. There’s footage. [It] Must be real. She’s narrating this herself.”
Shaq revealed how he then went to google and asked around about the story and the documentary. He admitted that it was inspiring and more people needed to know about Lusia Harris.
“So the fact that I never heard of her, I was saying to myself, the world probably doesn’t know about this woman either.”

Shaq is well aware of his influence and impact. He knows his fan following is huge, so he has a fair idea that he can bring this to a lot of people. Shaquille O’Neal recognizes how amazing Lusia Harris’ story is and he wanted to bring ‘The Queen of Basketball’ to as many people as possible.
