Shaquille O’Neal is one of the NBA’s biggest success stories. Of course, his on-court prowess catapulted him to multi-millionaire status, but his off-court exploits played a major role in that.

He is a successful businessman. Shaq has dabbled in the music industry as both a rapper and a DJ. The big man has also kept involved with the sport by working as an NBA analyst on TNT. In the midst of all of this, O’Neal has been a great father and a major influence on his children to constantly pursue their dreams.

Myles O’Neal, his eldest son, is a good example of Shaq’s influence. Myles, like his father, has chosen the entertainer route. After trying his hand at a number of things, he has followed in his father’s footsteps and entered the DJing industry.

Meaning, now Shaq is not the only one in the family who knows how to a keep a party alive. However, O’Neal’s ex-wife Shaunie O’Neal used to be terrified of Myles being a bad influence on Shareef O’Neal, their other son.

Shaunie O’Neal was concerned that Myles’ partying habits would have a negative influence on Shareef O’Neal

Shaunie O’Neal and her boys, Myles O’Neal and Shareef O’Neal, went on a house hunt in an episode of VH1’s Basketball Wives. Shareef needed accommodation in Los Angeles. His mother helped him with short-listing properties as he prepared to attend college and play basketball for UCLA.

The catch was that Myles and Shareef were going to be living together as roommates. This concerned Shaunie since Shareef would certainly have a lot on his plate in college, and Myles’ partying habits may be a hindrance.

“For Shareef it’s going to be a lot. Playing a sport in college is a full-time job, so he’s going to have to maintain school, the academic part, and his sports. And my biggest fear is that Myles is gonna turn the house into a party house,” Shaunie said.

Shaunie, being the boss mom that she is, later made it clear that Myles has to be responsible and that Shareef’s primary focus should be on college.

Shareef O’Neal followed in the footsteps of Shaquille O’Neal and is only a few steps away from the NBA

Shaunie O’Neal’s concerns went into dust, as Shareef O’Neal is just a few steps away from making the league. Shareef failed to make an impression in college because of his health concerns. As a consequence, he was not drafted. However, Shaquille O’Neal’s former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, threw him a lifeline.

The Lakers signed him to a two-way contract, allowing him to show his worth in the Summer League. He has a difficult road ahead if he wants a permanent contract in the league.

The 6’10” forward is nowhere close to the physical and dominant specimen his father was at his age. Shareef will have to impress teams and show them that he can be a solid role player to add to the roster.

Regardless, his father and mother would be proud of him. They would be pleased with how far their son has come despite his health setbacks. What does the future hold for Shareef O’Neal in the NBA, and will he ever be able to fill his father’s shoes? That is highly improbable at the moment, but only time will tell.
