“She Always Gave You Your Moneys Worth”: Magic Johnson Joins Halle Berry, Nicki Minaj and Millions in Celebrating 83-Year-Old Hollywood Legend’s Legacy

The music industry lost a prominent legend today. The ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’, Tina Turner passed away at 83. Turner was a pop icon in the 1980s and one of the few African American women then to enter the genre. The Rock N Roll icon died peacefully at her residence in Kusnacht, near Zurich, Switzerland. However, her cause of death has still not been revealed.

As NBA legend Magic Johnson credited her for paving the way for future artists, many such celebrities paid their respects to Turner, with the news coming as a devastating shock to many.

Tina Turner had been battling some long-time severe illness for the past few years. The 12-time Grammy Award winner was diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016. This was followed by her undergoing a kidney transplant in 2017 as well.

As soon as the news broke, Los Angeles Lakers legend Magic Johnson went to Twitter to pay his final respects. Johnson tweeted, “Rest in peace to one of my favorite artists of all time, the legendary queen of rock n’ roll Tina Turner. I’ve seen her many many times and hands down, she gave one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. She always gave you your moneys worth.”

He followed this up with another tweet wherein he credited Turner for paving the way for artists like Beyonce and Janet Jackson.

Veteran Hollywood actress Halle Berry too went to Twitter to react to Turner’s demise.

Trinidadian rapper and 12-time BET Award winner Nicki Minaj also paid her final respects to the 83-year-old legend.

Innumerable other fans of Tina Turner joined in and gave tribute to what she contributed to the world.

NBA legend Rex Chapman tweeted, “On July 18, 1969, Janis Joplin appeared on the Dick Cavett TV-show. Asked who she goes to see when she wants to see a really good concert, she answers: “Tina Turner – she’s the best chick ever!” rip tina turner.”

Prominent sportswriter Bill Simmons commented, “Tina Turner — LEGEND. What a life, what a career, what a comeback, what an impact. I hate doing Twitter RIPs but R I P. Also — I think “What’s Love Got To Do With It” is one of the best songs ever. This was one of the great 80s pop culture mergers.”

R&B icon Mariah Carrey tweeted too when she heard the news.
