Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are arguably one of the power couples in both Hollywood and the NBA. But like any good love story, it came with its share of highs and lows. The 3x NBA champion revealed a hard conversation that he had to overcome with his wife in 2020. In his new ESPN documentary, ‘D. Wade: Life Unexpected‘, the basketball player said, “She wasn’t just marrying me, she was marrying all this baggage“.

Wade shared that he had to gain the courage to have a necessary conversation with Gabrielle Union. He said that he was unable to sleep or eat prior to the couple’s discussion.

The dark truth revealed

PEOPLE reported that after dating from 2008, the couple “briefly parted ways due to their busy schedules” in early 2013. The actress revealed it was because of distance and their busy schedules. It was during this break that Wade fathered a child with Aja Metoyerin, a reality TV star. He was already a father to Zaire and Zaya, and a guardian to his nephew, Dahveon.

“I had a child with someone else and I had to tell her. Hardest thing I’ve ever had to do is man up and tell Gabrielle Union that I’ve had a child with somebody else. I couldn’t sleep. I wasn’t eating“, Dwyane Wade said in the documentary.

However the couple came through, and according to Wade, the children all loved his to-be wife. The cherry on the cake was that the children were included in his proposal to Gabrielle Union. She shared on ‘Good Morning America‘, how they had told her they were going to put on a “presentation”. She continued, “All the boys were holding up signs that said, ‘Will you marry us?'”

Birthday wishes from Gabrielle Union

A few days back, Dwyane Wade rang in his 41st birthday. His wife put a heartwarming post on Instagram which featured a montage of the duo and family photos and videos.

Union wrote, “May this year bring peace to your soul and light to your inner child. I love you baby, Happy Birthday!”

Loving posts came in from his children as well. While Kaavia put up a sweet post that read, “May this year be as strong and bountiful as your hairline“, Zaya wished her dad a very happy birthday. Wade’s eldest son, Zaire posted a mirror selfie with the caption, “Happy g day to the realest on my team“.
