Love him or hate him, there is no denying that Michael Jordan is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, players of all time. Not only basketball, but MJ was also a legendary and equally good trash-talker. Whenever someone decided to take a risk and trash-talk the Chicago Bulls legend, the six-time NBA champion took it upon himself to give an apt reply. During an encounter with the Vancouver Grizzlies in 1996, a youngster trash-talked His Airness.

Michael Jordan once put a trash talker in his place in epic style

The Chicago Bulls, led by Jordan, dominated the entire 1990s as they won six NBA titles. Everyone around the league was aware of MJ’s prowess. As a result, they refrained from taking shots at the six times Finals MVP. In a resurfaced Twitter video doing the rounds of the internet, the NBA Hall of Famer showed a youngster who’s the boss.

During the 1996-97 season, the Bulls visited Vancouver to face the Grizzlies. Darrick Martin, who was in his second NBA season, decided to poke Jordan with about 10 minutes left in the game. The Grizzlies were up by 8 points at that point and Jordan didn’t seem like his usual self.

Interestingly, Martin had a history with MJ. He was part of the pickup games Jordan played on the sets of his legendary movie Space Jam.

Martin took a dig at His Airness and said, “Hey, Mike! Sh*t’s not falling tonight, Mike. You’re having an off night, Mike!” What MJ proceeded to do next is nothing less than legendary. He gave Martin the perfect response scoring 24 points in the last 10 minutes. Scoring an iconic fadeaway for his last shot, Jordan turned to the bench and said, “Shut up, you lil b****.”

This iconic win over the Grizzlies fueled the Bulls’ 13-game winning streak from there on. Incidentally, they went 72-10 during the regular season. This was a league record for almost two decades until the Golden State Warriors shattered the record in 2016.

Jordan has been accused of ending a career through his trash talk

The one thing that separated Jordan from the rest of the players was his ruthlessness. When Muggsy Bouges, who was one of the shortest players in the league, faced MJ and the Bulls in 1995, things got a little out of hand.

When Bouges was ready to take a last-ditch shot, Jordan trash-talked him with some words about his height. Moreover, the Bulls legend also dared him to shoot. Crushing under the pressure, Bouges missed and that completely shattered him. Fans and media analysts have accused Jordan of taking it too far with Bouges.

However, the former Charlotte Hornets guard has insisted that MJ’s trash talk didn’t have any profound impact. Not just the opposition – Jordan trash-talked his own teammates too!
