The 2008 NBA Finals was a legendary matchup between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers. The two illustrious rivals matched up after so long in a battle for the ages. And the Celtics came out on top in a very exciting series. But that wasn’t before a legendary NBA coach fired at Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg for shouting as the Lakers and Kobe Bryant blew a massive lead.

The series was coming after both the Lakers and Celtics underwent a massive change in the off-season. The Celtics retooled their core and formed their Big 3 with Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce. The Los Angeles Lakers had acquired Pau Gasol to give Bryant a helping hand. And both the teams had breezed past opponents in the playoffs.

The series was a highly contested one, with games being close and there were huge comebacks from both sides. The Celtics came back from 24 points to win Game 4 and take a 3-1 lead. And in Game 5, that was the same case.

When Wahlberg and Damon felt the wrath of Lakers coach Phil Jackson

The Boston Celtics again came back down from a huge deficit, and they took the lead. This made the Lakers coach Phil Jackson irate as he called a timeout to stop the run. Incidentally, Celtics fans Damon and Wahlberg were sitting next to the Lakers bench. They were cheering their team on when the incident happened.

Damon said,” So that game… we’re down 21, 22 points in the third quarter and Paul Pierce just goes full ‘Truth’ mode and just goes bananas. And they had this unbelievable comeback. We’re cheering on the Celtics, as you do, and their run was capped by, I think, Pierce kinda sliced through the lane and laid the ball in to complete the comeback.”

“By the time he went up to lay the ball in, Phil’s already up because he’s like gotta call a timeout and try to stop the bleeding. And Wahlberg and I are like, ‘Oh my God!’, and as he calls the timeout, he just spins on us and he goes, ‘Sit down and shut the f*** up!’ He was so mad,”?Damon concluded.

He also said that Kobe Bryant had had enough with this and he told Phil Jackson to clear everybody out, so he could go to work. And he even said that Bryant laid down the smack on them when he went past them.
