“Slap Steph Curry”: Months After Condemning Will Smith-Chris Rock Saga, Disgruntled Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Makes a Striking Claim

Los Angeles Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been quite vocal about social injustice apart from what’s going on in the NBA. After winning six NBA championships and numerous accolades, Abdul- Jabbar uses his fame and platform to voice his opinions on what’s going on in the world. But when he was asked about his views on the young players using the skyhook, he decided to pin the blame on Stephen Curry.

Apart from his NBA championships and other achievements, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar popularized the skyhook in the league. However, as time has gone by, fewer and fewer players have been utilizing that unstoppable move in the post. While it is extremely difficult for anyone to make that shot on a regular basis, the way basketball is played today has decreased its value even more.

During last year’s Oscars event, Will Smith ended up slapping Chris Rock., which sent shockwaves throughout the entertainment and even the sports world. And even Kareem Abdul-Jabbar gave his two cents on it. The Lakers legend slammed Will Smith for his actions. However, the 75-year-old amusingly hinted at doing the same thing to Steph Curry.

Recently, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was asked about his advice for the upcoming young players on the skyhook. And his reply was both amusing and a little concerning as he said that young players don’t even consider the skyhook in a game.

And the reason they don’t is that it’s all about the three-pointer now. Given that the three-ball is more lucrative than two points, this type of ideology may take away the beauty of the game as time goes by.

The Captain said, “They’ve forgotten about anything that does not say three points on it. And I gotta go across the bay and slap Steph Curry for changing everybody’s mind about how to play the game.”

While Kareem Abdul-Jabbar said that with a smile on his face, it does hold some truth to it. The game has seen players shooting three balls more than ever before. Post-game is slowly becoming redundant as many big men are now expected to take and make threes on a regular basis.

There is no doubt in the fact that the Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry has revolutionized the game. His incredible long-range shooting has definitely changed how players approach the game now.

Young, upcoming players would rather shoot a long-distance three in the hopes of making it instead of working for a definite two points in the paint. And the skyhook, which was an unstoppable move, seems to have disappeared completely.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar used the skyhook to not only become the all-time scoring leader but also win six NBA championships. Though LeBron James surpassed Abdul-Jabbar for the all-time scoring record, it took over three decades to do so.
