The sporting world lost one of its biggest legends recently. NFL legend Jim Brown passed away on May 18th at his residence at the age of 87 years. Brown’s influence can be measured by the impact he had on people’s lives. Mourning along with millions of fans was the NBA legend Magic Johnson as well. Magic expressed his grief on social media. He was joined by the fans of Jim Brown who sent their condolences to the Brown family in their time of grief.

Brown was a 3x NFL MVP, who won the NFL championship in 1964. The late legend played for the Cleveland Browns from 1957-1965. The Cleveland connection between him and LeBron is what made their relationship stronger. The 4x NBA championship penned an emotional and heartfelt note for the NFL legend on Instagram.

LeBron thanked Brown for everything he has done for the culture and his people. He even said that every Black athlete should learn from his life and legacy and that they all stand on his shoulder as he opened gates for every athlete who followed him.

The 44th US President Barack Obama also wrote about Jim Brown. He applauded Brown for everything he did in sports and beyond.

Recently, the LA Lakers legend Magic Johnson also tweeted about Brown, expressing his grief over the loss. He said, “I was so sad to hear that the legendary Jim Brown passed away today. He was a Hall of Fame football player, civil rights advocate, social activist, actor, and mentor to so many.” Johnson also echoed LeBron’s sentiment of Brown being a pioneer for Black athletes. “He broke down barriers in sports and in this country,” Magic added.
