“Someone Tell This B** To Meet Me Outside”: Ellen Pompeo Stood Up for LeBron James and Kevin Durant Publicly in 2018

LeBron James and Kevin Durant appeared in an interview together in 2018. They spoke about their past, their present, and the challenges they faced in society. While talking about the challenges faced, James touched upon the topics of politics and the then-president, Donald Trump. LeBron’s take on this topic didn’t sit well with journalist Laura Ingraham. While she reacted to these comments in a way that triggered controversy, actress Ellen Pompeo stood up for the NBA champions.

In the interview, the four-time NBA champion stated that certain comments made by the president were “laughable and scary.” He also claimed that the President doesn’t understand nor care about the people of the United States. Kevin Durant claimed that he felt like the country wasn’t being run by a great coach. Laura Ingraham criticized LeBron, in particular, for his comments.

After the interview, Laura Ingraham on live television advised LeBron to “s**t up and dribble.” She went on to call his words “barely intelligible.” While stating that LeBron’s comments were grammatically wrong, Ingraham spoke about how taking political advice from “someone who gets paid $100 million a year to bounce a ball” wasn’t smart. She was also quick to point out LeBron’s education status of being a high school graduate. Ingraham suggested that he should leave politics to the experts.

While Ingraham’s comments received heaps of backlash, Grey’s Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo took to Twitter to defend LeBron James. She tweeted, “Someone tell this b***** to meet me outside.” She further stated that she isn’t in the mind space to act nice or be polite. Pompeo also warned Ingraham not to attack LeBron James. She also ironically stated that she was just a high-school graduate, so her “gloves are off.” 

Afterwards, Laura Ingraham published a statement. She stated that she has criticized several people in her life for their political comments. The veteran reporter also claimed that her comments had no racial intent.

Ingraham also commented on athletes speaking about politics. She stated that athletes shouldn’t “be surprised” when they are reprimanded for “insulting politicians.”

LeBron responded and said, “The best thing she did was help me create more awareness”. He stated that he initially laughed at this. LeBron mentioned that he means too much to people, so he would continue to fight and make himself heard.
