Klay Thompson has over the years built his name as one of the mainstays of the NBA. The Golden State Warriors star has proven on many occasions to be a key player for his franchise. He maintains a dominating partnership with Stephen Curry for the Warriors. In what could be a huge boost to the team, they announced Klay’s return dates from injury.

The Warriors expect Klay to return to action against the Cleveland Cavaliers.  The Warriors’ home arena, Chase Center, will host Klay’s return game on Sunday as he aims to make an impact after a long absence. Warriors head coach Steve Kerr also revealed his plans for Klay’s return.

According to Kerr, Warriors fans could expect Thompson to start and play 15 to 20 minutes as he builds his game tempo. Since mid-November, Thompson has been participating in scrimmage games to build his fitness. An unplanned scrimmage match with the Warriors’ starters came last week as he practiced in Denver alongside the team after the postponement of their game against the Nuggets.

Klay has missed two successive seasons after suffering from injuries. The game against the Cavaliers on Sunday will mark precisely 941 days since Klay played in an NBA game. He sustained his ACL injury in 2019 during the NBA Finals and then tore his Achilles tendon in a pickup game in 2020.

Thompson started his NBA journey with the Warriors in 2011.

The three-time NBA champion has combined well with Curry previously in 2014. The duo recorded a then-NBA record with 484 combined three-pointers in a season. A return to his pre-injury form could witness Klay displace some other stars on the lineup as he rekindles his lethal partnership with Curry to potentially lead the Warriors to NBA glory.
