Stephen Curry Admitted He is “Envious” of Ja Morant Since He Can “Fly Around” Like the Warriors Superstar Hopes He Could

Stephen Curry once admitted in an interview that he is “envious” of Grizzlies star Ja Morant. The Dubs superstar has established himself as the greatest shooter in the history of the NBA and the leader of the Golden State Warriors dynasty. However, Stephen Curry still wishes that he had the athletic capabilities of some guards in the NBA, including Ja Morant and Darius Garland.

The Warriors recently cemented their legacy as one of the greatest dynasties in basketball after winning the 2022 NBA finals. In their journey to the championship, they had to overcome a resilient Memphis Grizzlies side in the Western Conference semifinals. In fact, the series turned out to be a heated encounter between the two sides, both on and off the court.

However, Stephen Curry showered adulations on Ja Morant in this GQ interview earlier this year, a few months before their vicious postseason encounter.

Stephen Curry expressed his admiration for Ja Morant and Darius Garland’s athletic prowess on the court. The Dubs guard is not famous for his athletic capabilities despite his genius from beyond the arc.

Therefore, Curry possesses a kind of admiration and envy for guards who can impact the game with their athleticism. “Ja and Darius Garland are two guys on my radar,” revealed the two-time MVP. “I just love watching them play. And they do exciting, athletic, creative stuff that jumps off the screen.”

I’m always envious of athletic guards who can fly around and make their presence that way, because I could never do that,” he added.

Curry and Morant’s exchange of jibes

The 2022 Western Conference semifinals saw the birth of a brand new rivalry in the NBA, between the Golden State Warriors and the Memphis Grizzlies. However, the Grizzlies still have a long way to go to catch up with the Dubs.

But they have a young, promising roster that could be lethal with a little experience. In fact, they displayed great promise against the Warriors in the playoffs.

Meanwhile, the animosity between the Warriors and the Grizzlies dates back to 2020 when multiple players from both sides engaged in an exchange of jibes on social media regarding Dubs star Andre Iguodala. Steph Curry and Ja Morant too exchanged insults on social media amid the controversy.
