The NBA offseason is in full swing right now. We have already seen multiple max and supermax extensions being signed by different players. And it looks like one of the last major deals has gone through. James Harden has agreed to a two-year $68.8 million max contract with a player option after the first year. This is one of the rare cases where a superstar player has taken some sort of pay cut to help his team compete for the title.

Generally, basketball players don’t sign these types of deals. But it looks like not everybody is a fan of this deal between Harden and the 76ers. NFL legend tight end Shannon Sharpe on his show Undisputed expressed different views on this news.

He said, “Look we see teams that are willing to pay… Steph Curry ain’t taking no pay cut… Golden State Warriors in the championship and winning and they in the luxury tax so you can spend money and still be in the championship games.”
He further said, ” Steph is on a max contract. Draymond is on a damn near max contract… Klay is on a max contract and they won the damn championship and nobody take no pay cut.”

He also said, “You can do it Skip I just hate it when players give money back because the teams are making money and what they have done is that they have taken one or two isolated incidents where guys have taken less money and won and they tryna prank the whole NBA that you to can be the San Antonio Spurs… you see Manu, Tony and Duncan took less money and won.”
James Harden and the 76ers
The 76ers traded for James Harden at the trade deadline in a blockbuster trade. They sent former number one overall pick Ben Simmons among other players and a pick to the Brooklyn Nets in return for Harden.

With a full offseason under his belt and enough time to get familiarized with the tactics. This is a golden opportunity for the 76ers. They have a top three player in the world in Joel Embiid. Tyrese Maxey has also shown tremendous growth. This will be a lost opportunity if they don’t utilize this.
