Stephen Curry and Ja Morant’s Brewing Rivalry Kicked Off via Private Messages Due to One Warriors Veteran

The 2022 Western Conference semifinals between the Golden State Warriors, led by superstar Stephen Curry, and the Memphis Grizzlies turned out to be a very heated encounter. In fact, multiple players from both sides exchanged comments and the tension between the teams remained high throughout the series.
As it turns out, the animosity between the two sides dates back two years when Stephen Curry and Grizzlies star Ja Morant got entangled in an online feud with each other.
In other words, Stephen Curry and Ja Morant publicly exchanged barbs on social media over NBA All-Star Andre Iguodala. Iguodala won three championships with the Warriors from 2015 to 2018. However, the Dubs front office decided to trade him in 2019.

Meanwhile, the 2015 Finals MVP ended up with the Grizzlies. And things started to sour from there.

The Grizzlies were supposed to trade Iguodala after acquiring him. However, the Memphis front office couldn’t get any interesting offers right off the bat. As the trade deadline approached, Iguodala reportedly seemed unwilling to play even a minute for the Grizzlies for the rest of the season.

As a result, Grizzlies star Dillon Brooks decided to call him out. “A guy that’s on our team doesn’t want to be on our team,” he said to reporters. “I can’t wait until we find a way to trade him so we can play him, and I can show him what really Memphis is about.”
Meanwhile, Ja Morant co-signed Brooks’ comments. Therefore, Stephen Curry fired back at Morant with a picture of Iguodala holding the Larry O’Brien trophy. In response to Curry’s jibe, the 2020 Rookie of the Year posted a picture of Kevin Durant with a Finals MVP.
Afterward, Morant reportedly revealed that he had exchanged private messages with Stephen Curry. And he shares a “mutual respect” for the Dubs superstar.

The Golden State Warriors cemented their legacy as a bona fide dynasty after winning the 2022 NBA Finals. Therefore, the Grizzlies have suffered a temporary setback in their budding rivalry with the San Francisco franchise.
However, Memphis has extensively rebuilt its roster over the years. As a result, they now have a core of talented young players who will get more and more lethal with experience.
