Despite Acknowledging LeBron James and Kevin Durant as Superstars, Chadwick Boseman Fanboyed Over Their Rival in 2015

The recent release of the new Black Panther movie has left fans remembering the late Chadwick Boseman. Apart from being a talented actor, the Hollywood star was a cultured man interested in various facets of society. Like many in the entertainment industry, Boseman was also a huge basketball fan and an avid follower of the NBA.

The Black Panther actor had won the hearts of millions of fans around the world throughout his impressive career. He captured the hearts of Marvel fans through his unique role in the MCU before losing his life to cancer.

Incidentally, despite being one of the biggest names in Hollywood, Boseman was an avid fan of the NBA. In 2015, he surprised many after revealing his favorite player.

The South Carolina native Chadwick Boseman’s love for the UNC Tar-heels, is well documented. However, little is known about his favorite team and players in the NBA. The Hollywood actor, on numerous occasions, has pledged his fandom to multiple franchises and players. In one such instance in 2015, he added another player to his favorites list.

In an interview with GQ magazine in 2015 at the Men of the year party, Boseman revealed his favorite star in basketball. He crowned Stephen Curry the ‘man of the year’ from the NBA. Boseman said with conviction, “Steph Curry, without a doubt. Unbelievable.” The star actor picked Curry over other superstars like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Russell Westbrook. Boseman further sang high praise of Curry and gave the reasoning behind his pick. He commented on the 6’2” point guard’s playstyle, “Watching Curry play takes you back in time.” He then ended the tangent by extending his support to the Golden State Warriors and wished them good fortune on their streak.

Boseman was right about picking the ‘man’ in the NBA that year. Though players like LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Russell Westbrook had impressive seasons, Stephen Curry was performing on another level. The 2014-15 season marked Curry’s first MVP and championship season. In a historic fashion, Curry led the Warriors to the best record in the league and eventually to the NBA Finals. In the process, they defeated Kevin Durant and the Oklahoma City Thunder to win the West.

In the Finals, Curry and the Warriors faced off against King James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. In a thrilling six-game series, the Warriors edged out James’s Cavs to become world champions. That season marked the beginning of the Warriors dynasty. They have since dominated the league and added three more championship banners.
