NBA superstar Stephen Curry has helped the Golden State Warriors win four NBA titles in the last eight years. He has also helped them reach the Finals five straight times while winning three out of the five. This dominance has cemented the Warriors as one of the best dynasties in NBA history. And they are not finished yet. Stephen Curry is the driving force behind this run by the Dubs. However, not everyone thought that the Dubs guard would be one of the most influential players in the future when he first joined the league.

Curry was not thinking about the NBA after high school. However, he caught the eyes of many with his performances for the Davidson Wildcats. In 2009, he was the NCAA scoring leader, thanks to his sharpshooting skills. Hence, he declared for the NBA draft. The Warriors selected him as the 7th pick in the 2009 NBA draft.

Incidentally, he had a decent rookie season and averaged 17.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.9 assists per game. And his efficiency behind the arc was evident with a shooting percentage of 43.7%. However, he did not win the Rookie of the Year award. Sacramento Kings’ rookie Tyreke Evans won the award that year.

The Warriors stuck with Stephen Curry, and he delivered

In his first year in the NBA, the Warriors did not make the playoffs. They finished 13th in the Western Conference. Curry has always been one of the goofiest players in the NBA. Even after becoming a superstar, he does not forget to have fun. A young Curry once shared a funny tweet about his tour of the White House. He wrote, “Headed 2 the White House 4 a tour. Never been there b4 so I’m crazy excited. Maybe run into Obama on the way to the Bathroom or something”

Stephen Curry then showed some improvement in his sophomore year. However, his third year in the league was marred by injuries. He only played 26 games that season. And the Warriors were in a tough spot to make a decision about the direction of the organization. On one hand, they have a young injured Curry with huge potential. On the other hand, they had the star, Monta Ellis.

The front office had to decide who to build their team around. And they chose Curry, even though he missed most of the season. In 2012, Ellis was traded along with Kwame Brown and Ekpe Udoh, to the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for Andrew Bogut and Stephen Jackson. And their decision to stick with Curry worked wonders as he helped them win the title in just a few more years.
