While the NBA season is taking place, USA basketball announced the coaching staff for the national team. Golden State Warriors’ Steve Kerr is replacing Gregg Popovich as the new head coach for USA. Erik Spoelstra and Monty Williams will join him as assistant coaches. Recently, questions about Stephen Curry being a part of USA basketball came up and Kerr had an encouraging response.

There were heavy rumors around the Olympics this year that Curry would be a part of the outfit. However, after suffering an injury, Steph said he was at a point in his career where he was happy. Curry felt it wasn’t the right thing to do or the right time for him. Hence, he opted out of playing for USA basketball.

Kerr rolling out the mat for Stephen Curry?

After recently being announced as head coach, questions about USA basketball were presented to Kerr. One of the most frequently asked questions was whether Steph would play. In response, Kerr said if the ‘Baby Face Assassin‘ is healthy, he can speak to Grant Hill and Sean Ford and make it happen. However, there wasn’t any surety as a lot can change between now and the Paris Olympics.

Kerr said: “If Steph is healthy and wants to play, I’m pretty sure I can convince Grant [Hill] and Sean [Ford] to put him on the roster. It would be wonderful, but you never know how this thing is going to play out.”

While Curry has been the face of the NBA, he is yet to be a part of the Olympics. Steph either didn’t get in or he was dealing with injuries; hence, an Olympic debut still awaits Stephen Curry. If he does decide to play, Team USA will have more firepower than ever. With KD being on the wheel along with Steph, the offense will look terrorizing to any opposition.
