“Stop the Excuses”: Stern Apology From Officials, Yet Fans Urge the League to “Suspend the Refs” After Controversial LeBron James and the Lakers Saga

The Los Angeles Lakers seemingly got robbed of the game against the Boston Celtics in their last matchup and fans believe there is no one else to blame but poor officiating on the part of the referees on the sidelines. Moreover, the number of missed calls, specifically with LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, is daunting. Now, despite the officials issuing a stern apology to the league, it may not be enough as fans are urging that they be suspended.

The call missed by the referees during the Lakers vs Celtics game caught the attention of the NBA world. It wasn’t just fans who were furious, even fellow NBA players and celebrities were left shaking their heads in disbelief as well.

The majority of fans were furious with the officials and wanted serious action to be taken against the refs in order for it to not happen again.

This was not the first time the officials on the sidelines missed a crucial call that could’ve changed the outlook of a game. LeBron James and co. have in fact suffered through such a scenario before this season.

Perhaps one of the most controversial no-calls was during the Lakers’ game against the Dallas Mavericks. Troy Brown Jr. got fouled by Tim Hardaway Jr. which was not called by the refs, despite Hardaway hitting Brown on the hand and leaving him no landing space after the shot.

Another crucial call that did not see the light of day recently was against Russell Westbrook. During the game’s final play, Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid held Westbrook’s hand during a layup.
