Jason Hehir, the director of ‘The Last Dance’ talked about the time he had to interview NBA defensive player, Dennis Rodman for his sports documentary. Rodman played an integral role in implementing the ‘Jordan Rules’, a strategy devised to slow down Bulls legend Michael Jordan. Therefore, his outlook was essential in the making of the docuseries that captured the reign of Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in the league. However, Hehir didn’t find it easy to make ‘the Worm’ spill the beans.

In an episode of NBA on ESPN, ‘The Last Dance’ director recalled his interview with Rodman. Hehir disclosed that Rodman turned up two hours late to the designated place, uncertain of why he was being interviewed.

Dennis Rodman’s uncanny demands

During the interview, Hehir referred to Rodman as a ‘feral cat’, explaining that he was constantly going off-topic and looking in different directions. Furthermore, he kept talking about Kim Jong Un and North Korea. But that was far from the end of the story.

After arriving two hours after his scheduled time, Rodman asked the director the purpose of the interview. Hehir revealed that he’s compiling a ten-hour docuseries on Michael Jordan and the Bulls. “Ten hours huh? I?ll give you ten minutes,” declared the five-time NBA champion.

Subsequently, Rodman made a rather weird demand to Jason Hehir. ?So he sits down. I?m just kind of shooting the s**t with him, and he says, ?I need a tuna sub from Subway and some chamomile tea,'” revealed the director.

After that, the interview lasted for about three hours. However, the interview took place after Hehir spent several months trying to get the Hall-of-Fame hooper to sit down with him. As a result, the production certainly got delayed due to the 45-year-old director’s prolonged efforts to sit down with Rodman.

Given the quirky personality of ‘Dennis the Menace’, it is not really surprising that ‘The Last Dance’ director had such a hard time getting out facts from him.

The rivalry between Chicago Bulls and Detroit Pistons in the late 80s and early 90s was rather significant. The ‘Bad Boy’ Pistons presented a major obstacle for Jordan and the Bulls during the time. Former Pistons coach Chuck Daly played a major part in the Bulls’ defeat. He came up with a set of rules to overpower Michael Jordan. These rules enabled the Pistons to overcome the Bulls challenge.

Rodman played a crucial role in implementing these strategies. However, Michael Jordan would soon find a way to tackle these rules and win championships. Later on, Rodman would join the Bulls and became an integral part of their second three-peat team.
