Michael Jordan no longer the richest athlete in the world?

However, it seems like all of the names on the list will soon bite the dust against Jessica Pegula. She is the daughter of Terry Pegula, a self-made businessman with a net worth of $6.8 billion. MJ’s title of the richest athlete in the world is now contingent upon Pegula’s inheritance.

Pegula made a fortune in oil and gas and then turned his attention to the world of sports. He acquired the NHL side Buffalo Sabres in 2011 for $189 million. In 2014, Pegula made headlines around the world after he acquired the NFL side Buffalo Bills for $1.4 billion. Interestingly, he outbid former POTUS Donald Trump and legendary musician Bon Jovi to acquire the Bills.

Jessica Pegula was born to Terry Pegula and his businesswoman wife, Kim Pegula, on the 24th of February, 1994. Although, Pegula has earned around $7.2 million in prize money in her tennis career, that amount is nowhere close to the wealth that she will inherit. The WTA No. 3 has an estimated wealth three times the amount of money MJ has in the bank.

Pegula made her country proud recently

Although Jessica Pegula might not be a very well-known name in the world of tennis, she has quite a few accomplishments to her name. Recently, she took the United States of America to the final of the Billie Jean Cup.

Pegula and Coco Gauff won to beat Austria 4-0 and reach the finals of the prestigious event. The duo will be eyeing a record 19th title in the tournament, which will commence in November. Along with the US, France, Germany, and other teams have also booked their berths.

Despite her claim to the world’s richest athlete title, Pegula wants to focus on winning a Grand Slam title.
