The Brooklyn Nets, after a horrid start to the new season, parted ways with their head coach, Steve Nash. After carving out a legendary NBA career for himself, he failed to replicate that brilliance as a head coach. Seeing the 48-year-old lose his job, two former Boston Celtics legends voiced their views.

Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce were the two spearheaders of the 2008 Finals-winning Celtics squad. The two discussed Nash’s firing during an episode of SHOWTIME Basketball’s ‘KG Certified: The Ticket & The Truth’. They asserted that the two-time MVP losing his Nets job was something that was expected to be in the pipeline.

“The writing was on the wall with Nash getting fired,” Pierce said. “To have this type of talent on your team to be a first-year coach, it’s a lot of pressure that comes with it,” he added.

He then tried to defend Nash by saying how he got to manage a full-strength roster only on a few occasions. Pierce further stated that at the end of the day, if somebody is going to be the scapegoat, it’s going to be the coach.

Garnett then weighed in on the situation in Brooklyn. He remarked that the previous two years in Brooklyn have been plagued with distractions rather than basketball.

The 15-time NBA All-Star then brought up the situation in the Golden State Warriors dugout. He stated how they gained momentum in the past by surviving all of the hits and punches. That’s exactly what the Brooklyn Nets have lacked, he mentioned, adding that they tipped off the new season with no foundation.

What’s next for the Brooklyn Nets now that NBA legend Steve Nash has been fired

After a phenomenal NBA career, Steve Nash put his coaching abilities to the test. He took over the helm in Brooklyn two years ago with no prior coaching experience. The Nets made the playoffs in both seasons but never really got close to fulfilling their championship aspirations.

Following a sluggish start to the 2022/23 season, the Nets’ front office decided they have had enough and parted ways with Nash. The team subsequently announced that assistant coach Jacque Vaughn will serve as interim head coach until a successor is found.

Furthermore, Udoka enjoyed a glorious first season as the head coach as he led his squad to the NBA Finals.
