Luka Doncic has to be ruing today’s game. Dallas was leading the game by a massive 22-point margin. But, in the end, they fumbled the game as the Suns rode past them 104-107. It was a game that did not lack surprises as Damion Lee went ham on the Mavericks during the 2nd half of the game. Before that, it looked like a repeat of the Conference Semifinals game. However, the Suns took advantage of the mistakes made by Dallas to squeak past them. The raucous Phoenix crowd also helped them along the way.

Lee’s heroics surprised many in the fandom. He scored an unreal fallaway jumper to ensure that Phoenix wins the opening tie against the Mavericks.? Luka Doncic, on the other end, missed a three-pointer. The Suns ended up sighing a breath of relief when that happened. They were going through a very mediocre preseason and this win kicks off their season well.
They also slightly avenged their playoff loss against Dallas. Fans were stunned and shocked by the performance of Lee during this game. During the final seconds of the game, he came up big which exhilarated some fans but distraught some as well.

Luka Doncic and the Mavericks choked up in the final moments
Doncic scored 35 points with Christian Wood coming good with 25. But, Dallas had a miserable second half. Just one minute into the 3rd quarter, Spencer Dinwiddie picked up his fourth foul, which set off a string of horrendous Maverick play. Tim Hardaway missed multiple opportunities to score. Wood scored 12 points in the fourth quarter but Jason Kidd decided to bench him instead.
The sloppy defense also allowed Phoenix to move within three points of Dallas. With more than a minute and a half remaining, the Suns scored enough to get a five-point lead. Doncic did not give up on the cause as he scored again and again to regain parity. But, Lee’s “piledriver” knocked out the Mavericks cold.

The move to bench Wood backfired for coach Jason Kidd. He sacrificed a sure lead to get defensive solidity. It turned out to be the wrong move for him and the Mavericks.
