Hardly a month from now, the hoops world will witness the much-awaited 2023 NBA draft. All eyes are now set on the San Antonio Spurs as they have recently won the NBA Draft Lottery. Apparently, the widely projected first pick, Victor Wembanyama continues to be in the center stage in NBA circles. While weighing in on the Frenchman’s prospects in San Antonio, a Celtics legend sounded quite optimistic.

The Spurs have a history of being a place where players have bloomed. San Antonio had drafted the legendary Tim Duncan in 1997, and the rest is history. Given this reputation of the Spurs, it seems like the Boston Celtics legend can’t wait to see Wembanyama don San Antonio’s colors.

Way before Victor Wembanyama declared for the 2023 NBA Draft, NBA veterans and fans had spent quite some time discussing which side will be the best for the Frenchman. During one such discussion, Celtics legend Kevin Garnett had opined that the seven-foot giant will be a good fit in the Hornets. However, now that the Spurs have the honor of drafting the first pick, KG has changed his stance. The 2008 NBA champion is more than happy about the 19-year-old going to San Antonio.

In the recent episode of KG Certified podcast, Kevin Garnett and his former teammate Tony Allen discussed Wembanyama’s prospects in the Spurs. The two were quick to hold the San Antonio camp’s culture in high regards. According to KG and Allen, the Spurs have historically groomed some of the iconic NBA stars.

Given the high hopes on Wembanyama, the two former champions agreed that Spurs will be the right place for the seven-footer. “They [Spurs] have a very very very deep winning culture in its habits,” KG said. “I think this kid, Victor is like you said man. Perfect Situation. San Antonio is like a big, small city.”
