On December 23, the Charlotte Hornets clinched a win over the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite LeBron James 34 point game, the Hornets managed to stand strong and push for victory. So on Monday night, it was time for revenge, and LeBron was all geared up.

With 43 points, 11 rebounds, and 6 assists, the four-time champion led his team to victory (121-115). As the NBA community bathed in the magic of LeBron, there was one moment in the game when Hornets star Dennis Smith Jr almost got the better of the 18-time All-Star.

During the fourth quarter of the game, Dennis Smith Jr leaped up in the air, attempting to execute what would have been a ruthless dunk over LeBron James. As he reached the rim, he came in slight contact with LeBron, missed the basket, and drew a foul.

This left the Hornets bench, broadcasters and the arena pumped and excited. After the foul was called, Smith stared at LeBron before walking to the free-throw line.

Fans weigh in on Dennis Smith Jr’s play on LeBron James

This play by Dennis Smith Jr left fans astonished. They were quick to state that LeBron found the dunk to be scary and “saw god for a second”.

Fans also claimed that James looked relieved once the dunk was missed. Some commented that if the dunk was successful, then it would have been a sign for LeBron James to retire. Here are some of the reactions:

However, some fans also called Smith out for his behavior after missing the dunk. They questioned his “tuff” reaction and stated that he should have completed the dunk. They said:
“Bro folded so hard”
“He really could’ve made that dunno why he ain’t punch it”
“Why he acting tuff after missing”
“Basketball gods said no”

Despite this one moment, LeBron James was beyond sublime on the court. Some of his shots included a reverse windmill and high-flying dunks while he inched closer to breaking Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record for the most number of points in the league.

The four-time MVP’s performance was complemented by Thomas Bryant’s 18 points, Austin Reaves, and Dennis Schroder’s 15 points. During the post-game conference, LeBron spoke about the team’s mindset. He said, “We just had the mindset of wanting to close out this trip the right way.”

For the Charlotte Hornets, contributions came in from players like Terry Rozier who registered 27 points, and LaMelo Ball 24 points. However, their performances looked bleak in front of King James.
