The Golden State Warriors had an exciting postseason run this year but were unable to capitalize on it in the end. The team had its fair share of turbulence throughout the season, dealing with injuries to their star players and a mid-season trade. But one aspect that got targeted throughout the season more than the others was the Warriors’ young core. The young stars of the Warriors were continuously questioned for their commitment and performances on the court. After head coach Steve Kerr seemingly took a jab at the young core of the roster, a 20-year-old Warriors star shared a cryptic message on Instagram.

Tired of the youngsters and looking to add experience to the roster, the Warriors were part of a three-team trade that sent 2020 NBA Draft #2 pick James Wiseman to the Detroit Pistons and brought Gary Payton II back to the team. Despite the trade, the Golden State Warriors continued to struggle. A lot of the blame for that was put on the up-and-coming stars on the team.

After their elimination from the 2023 NBA playoffs, the future of some young Warriors stars started to seem bleak with the team. Jordan Poole’s poor performances this season as compared to the last were in the spotlight. However, he wasn’t the only one. One such player was the 6’6 power forward, Jonathan Kuminga.

As the NBA Finals unfold, Draymond Green was joined by his head coach Steve Kerr on his podcast, ‘The Draymond Green Show‘. While on the show, Kerr highlighted the reasons behind the Miami Heat’s unprecedented run to the NBA Finals this year. However, it might have been a subtle jab at some of the Warriors players.

While talking to Green, Kerr said, “None of those guys on Miami are sitting there saying, ‘I didn’t play or man, they put in so and so.’ They’re just all about winning and you know this from our groups that we’ve had. When you have that championship mentality, every guy’s bought in. Every guy is just trying to win.”

“Nobody cares about any of that stuff. You don’t go in the locker room saying I should’ve played more. You just wanna win. That’s the beauty of finding that magic,” added Kerr.

Now, Kerr may not have directly taken names, but it’s fair to assume that it was a shot at the current role players on the Warriors, most of whom are young. 20-year-old Warriors star Jonathan Kuminga shared a post soon after Kerr’s comments viral.

Did Jonathan Kuminga aim it at Steve Kerr?

Shortly after Steve Kerr’s interview with Draymond Green started to make the rounds on social media, Jonathan Kuminga went on to his official Instagram account to share somewhat of a cryptic message, finally breaking the silence.

Kuminga was one player who was reportedly looking for a change of scenery after barely getting any minutes to play during these playoffs. He was getting ready to showcase his talent to other teams, hoping to get a bigger role with them.
