The NBA season might be over but there is no stopping basketball as the Tokyo Olympics 2020 are in full swing right now. While the competition sees favorites like Kevin Durant led team USA, debutants like Luka Doncic and Slovenia are also starring in the tournament.

After a rampant day 1 which saw a shocking defeat for the favorites, Mavericks’ young star Luka Doncic made his debut in the Olympic stage tonight. Facing off against South American giants in Argentina, Slovenia certainly had a tough task at their hand.

This matchup between Slovenia and Argentina looked like a balanced matchup in the first place. But from the start of the game, it was clear that Doncic was not messing around. Scoring a whooping 17 points in the first quarter, Luka led the Europeans to a fantastic 32-24 start.

Doncic and Slovenia continued the barrage in the second quarter as well. Outscoring the Argentinians by 30-18, Slovenia took a commanding 62-42 lead at the end of the first half. The trend continued further in the third and fourth quarter as well. With a scoreline of 42-38 in the second half, the Slovenian basketball team won their very first game in the Olympics with a thumping scoreline of 104-80.

While the Argentinian side did see some of their stars like Luis Scola and Facundo Campazzo step up in the offensive end, their biggest Achilles heel in this game was their woeful shooting. Scoring only 4 of their 27 attempted shots, their was no way of a comeback for the 2004 gold medalists.

Slovenia meanwhile looked like the Dallas Mavericks in the playoffs as it was a Luka Doncic show. Scoring a mind-boggling 48 points along with 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 blocks, the 22-year-old was the best player on the court tonight. He was efficient as well scoring in 18 of his 29 attempted shots.

The Slovenian team is clearly a Luka run team and if the Mavericks’ superstar continues to perform at such a high level, expect to see the Europeans competing for a possible spot in the podium.
