The Brittney Griner situation has taken the NBA world by storm. POTUS Joe Biden recently addressed the situation, and former President Donald Trump spoke about it as well. Joe Biden and Trump do not see eye to eye on the Griner ordeal. Joe Biden and the US government put forth a proposal for the exchange of Griner for Victor Bout. Bout was arrested in the year 2008 for being an arms dealer.

Joe Biden wishes to bring Griner back to the United States for a prisoner exchange deal. Donald Trump, on the other hand, feels that the freedom of a criminal like Victor Bout should not be negotiated. In the cusp of things, recently, Bill Maher, who is a Donald Trump critic, was not tolerating Trump’s opinions. 

Maher said, “The DOJ, the Department of Justice, says we’re getting closer. I think we’re gonna maybe see a grand jury. They may put Trump…how about this for an idea? We put Trump in jail and then trade him to Russia for Brittney Griner.”

Donald Trump appeared on a podcast and condemned Brittney Griner for her actions. Trump also called her a “spoiled brat” who went to Russia “loaded with dr*gs”. He claimed that the trade was not “a very good trade”.

Griner has been detained in Russia for over 150 days, and her freedom has become a topic of discussion all over social media. Griner is the star player for the WNBA team, Phoenix Mercury. The Russian authorities arrested Griner for possession of illegal hashish products, and since then, she has been a topic of debate in the US. Griner was on course to complete her seventh season with the US Women’s Basketball team with her league games in Russia.

There is still a lot of uncertainty as to what would happen with Brittney Griner. She made another appearance in the Russian court as the case against her continues. As of now, Russian authorities have not agreed to the proposed trade yet.
