Democrat turned Republican politician Vernon Jones has chided the Biden administration’s efforts to bring home Brittney Griner. In fact, the former Georgia House of Representatives member has hailed former President Donald Trump as the right man for the difficult job. In addition, Jones has also claimed that Trump is the only one who can broker a deal to release Brittney Griner without a prisoner exchange program.

The former Georgia House of Representatives member’s statement comes amid ongoing negotiations between Moscow and Washington regarding a potential prisoner swap deal. Earlier, the Biden administration had offered Russian arms trafficker Viktor Bout in exchange for Brittney Griner and former US Marine Paul Whelan. Later on, Moscow requested to continue negotiations through a more classified channel.

After spending most of his career as a Democrat, the 61-year-old secured his affiliation with the GOP in 2021. Furthermore, he also supported President Trump in his re-election campaign in 2020.

Jones took to his Twitter to point his views on the infamous case. He wrote, “TRUMP is the only one who can bring @brittneygriner home without exchanging prisoners. Why?   @JoeBiden is a doormat…TRUMP is a matador!”

The veteran politician also spoke in favor of the conservative side at the 2020 Republican National Convention.

The Biden administration’s attempts to release Griner

Meanwhile, the Biden administration has been under pressure for some time regarding the release of Brittney Griner. As per the latest updates, Washington is still engaged in negotiations with Moscow.

However, Russia had recently claimed that the U.S is indulging in “megaphone diplomacy” amid negotiations. According to a statement released by the Russian foreign ministry, America is trying to score points before the mid-term elections in November.

Such claims emerged after Secretary of State Anthony Blinken spoke with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in late July. The Kremlin didn’t like the media speculating on the private phone call.

Since then, Moscow has asked for a more confidential channel for diplomacy. Meanwhile, Brittney Griner is facing a nine-year sentence in Russia amid ongoing negotiations.
