While Steph was still in college, he was star-struck when he saw two of the biggest women sporting sensations of that time. Danica Patrick and Annika Sorenstam met a young Curry in the hotel elevator.

They were all nominated for the ESPY awards when the meeting between them happened. Curry instantly recognized them and he was shy to even talk to them.

Curry told, “Here are two great-looking ladies I’d seen on TV. But I started stuttering because I was all nervous. My dad was laughing at me.”

It was no surprise that Patrick and Sorenstam recognized Steph in the elevator. Curry was one of the biggest college prospects who made a name for himself in the NCAA tournament.

Interestingly enough, the ESPY awards this year were hosted by none other than Stephen Curry! He joined LeBron James as the only other NBA star to host the event.

How good was Stephen Curry in college?

4 time NBA champion Stephen Curry was a star even before he entered the NBA. He played for Davidson College and quickly established himself as one of the hottest prospects in the country.

During his breakthrough 2006-07 season, Steph averaged 21.5 points, 2.8 assists, and 4.6 rebounds. Curry truly dominated the league during the 2008-09 season as he averaged an insane 28.6 points, 5.6 assists, and 4.4 rebounds. Numbers like these awarded him 2 Southern Player of the Year awards. He entered the 2009 NBA draft with a number of teams from across the league looking to recruit him. The Golden State Warriors drafted Curry out of Davidson College as the 7th overall pick during the 1st round.

Since then, he has had 2 MVP awards to his name alongside 4 NBA titles. Moreover, Curry won the 2021-22 NBA Finals MVP award in order to complete his individual trophy cabinet.
