It’s been more than five months since the Russian government detained Brittney Griner. Recently, a Russian court found her guilty and sentenced her to 9 years of prison time. The WNBA player played for the Phoenix Mercury and was one of the franchise’s key players. Detained on the 17th Feb 2022, she’s still in Russia fighting for her freedom.

Arguably, one of the best female basketball players of all time, the reason for her detainment was smuggling drugs into Russia. Various celebrities and influential people have raised their voices and stated opinions on this issue. UFC legend Yves Edwards also voiced his opinion on the same. Look what he has to say.

He wrote on his Twitter handle last night about the Brittney Griner incident. He said, “It seems like more people are more upset about Brittney Griner getting 9.5yrs in prison in a foreign than the amount of people in prison in the U.S. for w**d while companies are making billions off it.”

This brings into light a harsh reality or truth of what is happening with the Brittney Griner situation. While people are blaming Russia for detaining Brittney for 10 years for possession of w**d, many people get detained in the USA for the same reason. The drug is an addiction for a big chunk of young people in the USA. While companies who make these are benefiting, the only ones who are not are the youth as their lives are being scarred using the drugs.

This powerful opinion sure makes sense and was a very good observation. While the US legislation tries to bring back the Basketball legend, something about the problem could be done in the US too.
