‘Unguardable’ Celtics Legend, Who Rated Lakers Icon Over Michael Jordan, Once Made Infamous Public Accusation Against Him: “Bulls Complained All the Time”

Kevin McHale was a legendary player in the NBA. He was arguably the most unguardable. His footwork and the way he approached the game were off the charts. McHale would probably have been a starting five player on any team in the NBA at the time. McHale played with some of the greatest players, like Larry Bird, and was usually the sixth man. He once made bold claims about Michael Jordan and his Chicago Bulls. According to McHale, the Bulls were quite sore and found them complaining all the time. 

Kevin McHale was the man of a thousand moves. He was known for having the deepest skillset in the NBA. Players like Julius Irving and Charles Barkley recalled how unstoppable he was. McHale would give his opponents nightmares in the paint with his unpredictability. McHale wore the 32-numbered jersey for the gilded 80’s Celtics. He routinely would put his opponents to work and was known to outplay everyone.

Michael Jordan also recalled how during his early years that the Celtics were such a dominant force. Kevin McHale was known as a great trash talker, according to Michael Jordan. Interestingly, McHale would put Los Angeles Lakers icon Magic Johnson over Michael Jordan as he believed that the Bulls were disrespectful of what their predecessors, the Detroit Pistons, had achieved. McHale felt that Magic put the NBA on the map, not MJ.

McHale and the Boston Celtics would demolish the Bulls in their early years. It is reported that the Boston Celtics would not carry a change of clothes during their Eastern Conference matchups owing to their confidence. McHale, having played against MJ, had some strong opinions about him and his Chicago Bulls

Kevin McHale said, “First of all, you can see why the Pistons didn’t like the Bulls. The Bulls complained all the time. That’s one thing that came across. Like, ‘This is not basketball. This is thuggery.’ All that stuff. I thought the Bulls really disrespected what the Pistons were able to do.”

He said this in response to MJ and the Bull’s ‘The Last Dance’ documentary. He respected that MJ was able to dethrone the kings of the jungle before them but also gave credit to the Pistons. 

Celtics legend puts rival Magic Johnson over Jordan

Every NBA legend is entitled to their opinion when it comes to the Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson debate. Michael Jordan idolized the players that came before him. He wanted to be like Magic and Bird and arguably surpassed them. McHale, however, is in strong support of his rival from the Showtime Lakers, Magic Johnson.

McHale said, “No, Michael didn’t build this league because I was in the league before it was built. Magic Johnson and Larry Bird built this league, along with David Stern. David Stern had an unbelievable vision for this league.”

McHale hated the narrative that MJ brought all the attention to the league. Having played in the era of Larry and Magic, McHale had to remind everyone that the NBA existed before Michael Jordan.
