US President Bill Clinton Once Linked His 6 Million+ Jobs Claim With Michael Jordan’s Iconic Return to NBA

Michael Jordan was an icon in his playing days and in fact, still is. The world’s richest athlete is an inspiration for almost all basketball lovers. Even if someone does not rate him the absolute GOAT, one would not deny that MJ changed the world of basketball forever.

Michael Jordan played for 15 seasons. He won 6 NBA championships with Chicago Bulls in 13 seasons and played 2 seasons with Washington Wizards after owning a little part of the team in the early 2000s. MJ won a lot of hearts and his fan following was second to none. The most influential, famous, and special sports personalities of the time broke a lot of hearts too.

MJ retired for one season in between the historic decade he spent in the Chicago Bulls. He was away from NBA for only one season. He returned to the Bulls in 1995. MJ played baseball for one season in MLB.

His return was one of the most talked about topics in the world at that time. When ‘His Airness’ announced his return to the NBA, the then president, Bill Clinton, cheekily took credit for it.

President Clinton took note of Michael Jordan’s impending return to the NBA with the Chicago Bulls as the then president spoke with reporters about a drop in the unemployment rate. “As of today, the economy has produced 6.1 million jobs since I became president, and, if Michael Jordan goes back to the Bulls, it will be 6,100,001 new jobs,” he said in 1995.

MJ retired from the NBA in 1993 for the first time after he won his first three-peat with the Bulls. He played baseball for one season (1993-94) because of his father and returned soon enough for the 1994-95 season in the latter part, in 1995.

He then retired the second time in 1999 after completing the second three-peat with the Bulls in the span of 9 seasons in the decade. This was the time when everyone around the NBA felt that it was the right time for him to hang his boots.

But as it turned out MJ still had a little gas left in the tank and had the desire to return to the court one last and final time to play for the Washington Wizards for 2 seasons. Michael Jordan did have a couple more stints before finally retiring. And we are all blessed to witness the greatness of Jordan. The ones who watched him and even the generations to come who would watch him in videos.
