Following Stephen Curry‘s return from a three-week hiatus, the Golden State Warriors began their five-game road trip on January 13, 2023. Friday night’s game against the San Antonio Spurs marked the Warriors’ first game away from home and Curry’s second game after taking a break from the court due to a shoulder injury. In addition, the game has also broken a two-decade-old record that was previously set by NBA legend Michael Jordan‘s Chicago Bulls.

In 1998, the Chicago Bulls and the Atlanta Hawks created history when their game attracted 62,046 fans on March 27 at Georgia Dome. They remained a record-holder for 25 years before the San Antonio Spurs decided to celebrate a major accomplishment by breaking the record.

The two-decade-old record was finally broken at the Warriors vs Spurs game

The San Antonio Spurs decided to celebrate their 50-year anniversary of playing in San Antonio by organizing a grand scheme. The Spurs relocated to San Antonio in 1973 and what better way to celebrate their golden jubilee than to break over 20 years old record. As per reports by Michael C. Wright from NBA.com, the Spurs sold more than 63,000 tickets to the game against the Golden State Warriors that took place at Alamodome.

When asked about his expectations from the record-breaking game, NBA superstar Stephen Curry told NBC Sports, “It’ll be very unique. It’s be cool to be a part of hopefully a record-setting night. I’ve never been to the Alamodome. I have played in a dome before at Ford Field in Detroit during our tournament run in [2008]. And it’s a wild experience.”
