The Los Angeles Lakers continue their struggles with two back-to-back tough losses. Coming off a double-overtime loss against the Dallas Mavericks, the Lakers then lost to the Philadelphia 76ers in a heated match-up by one point today. In addition to the numerous criticisms the Lakers have been receiving, former NFL star Shannon Sharpe joined by making a strong statement on LeBron James‘ Lakers.

LeBron is very close to achieving the milestone of becoming the all-time points leader, passing fellow Lakers legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Although the team’s dream of another championship seems far away at the moment.

Shannon Sharpe, in addition to agreeing with James’ statement, criticized the Lakers for their poor performance. Yesterday on the ‘Undisputed’ show, Sharpe said, “LeBron wants to compete for the title. When Kareem broke the record in ’84, they lost the NBA Finals to the Celtics. So he was playing for something. Not only did he break the record, but he also went to the NBA Finals” comparing the situation of both the players.

Sharpe added, “He [LeBron James] is like, ‘If I am going for the scoring title and we are not in the playoffs, what the hell am I doing? That ain’t what I played for’ “. He added, “LeBron wants to play meaningful games. He wants to break the record, but in a meaningful situation, where the games actually matter. Not when they are 15-16 games out of playoff contention”

LeBron James and co. lose to the 76ers

The Lakers have extended their losing streak to three now, with their latest loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. James’ milestone of passing 38,000 points was ruined by the 76ers with Joel Embiid and James Harden leading from the front. Embiid scored a game-winning 35 points and 11 rebounds along with Harden’s 24 points and 13 assists.

James’s 35 points, 10 assists, and Russell Westbrooks’s 20-point triple-double were not enough for the Lakers to get past the 76ers. The Lakers currently stand as the 13th seed in the Western Conference with a record of 19-24.
