Despite the Golden State Warriors losing to the Charlotte Hornets, fans don’t seem to be too hard on Stephen Curry. The Warriors lost to the Charlotte Hornets 113-120. The game was awfully close for all four quarters and had to go into overtime. But the overtime period possibly could’ve been avoided if the Warriors had decided to run different plays in the last minute of the fourth quarter.

The Hornets and Warriors both have a 3-3 record in the West right now. The Hornets managed to defeat the defending NBA champions without their All-Star player LaMelo Ball. Despite being at full strength, the Warriors could not close out the game in overtime.

Curry has a rare bad night from beyond the arc in his hometown

Even though Stephen Curry had 31 points for the night, he shot 3-13 from beyond the arc. Klay Thompson wasn’t too effective with his threes either as he went 1-7 from the three-point line for the game.

In fact, Jordan Poole had an off night from long-range as well as he shot 4-11 from threes. But all that perhaps could’ve been overlooked if the Warriors’ star point guard Stephen Curry did not attempt to “heroball” his way to a win. Curry’s hometown is indeed Charlotte where he grew up, while his father Dell Curry plied his trade for the Hornets for 10 years, ending his career as the Hornets’ all-time highest scorer with 9,389 points.

After the game, Curry admitted his mistake of making some ill-advised plays during the final stretch of that fourth quarter. He said, “The last one for me really is one that I can get a way better look than that, and I got wrapped up in trying to heroball my way to a hometown buzzer-beater.”

Here are some of the reactions to Curry’s comments from NBA Twitter:

Despite losing the game, fans just couldn’t seem to be mad at the reigning Finals MVP.

Curry ended up missing two big three-pointers in the last two possessions in the fourth quarter. The Golden State Warriors were up 107-105 when Curry tried to shoot a missed three. Dennis Smith Jr. went on to tie the game in the following possession with a drive-in layup.

With the score tied up at 107 a piece, the Warriors brought the ball down the court with 23.3 seconds left in the final quarter. Curry called for an isolation instead of running a play and was smothered by Smith Jr., which led him to throw a hail-mary in the hopes of hitting a game-winning buzzer-beater shot. But that was not meant to be.
