“Was My Best Friend”: Scottie Pippen, Who Lost 33 Year Old Son, Painfully Narrates the Ordeal in His Book

Scottie Pippen’s firstborn son, Antron Pippen, passed away at the age of 33 in 2021. Having to share the sad news about the family was tough, “I’m heartbroken to share that yesterday, I said goodbye to my firstborn son Antron,” Pippen announced. From playing basketball together to exchanging knowledge and experiences, the two shared a strong bond. Antron was born in 1987 to Pippen and his first wife Karen McCollum.
Besides the South Georgia Technical College, his son also played basketball at Texas A&M International University. Furthermore, he also played in the World Basketball Association to develop his skills.

Several “complications related to asthma” were the cause of death, as disclosed by Pippen. The Bulls star also published his memoir, ‘Unguarded,’ in the same year. In his book, he wrote down not only his experiences watching the documentary series ‘The Last Dance,’ but also his life journey.

As a result of the incident, Pippen took months to recover. In the book, he shared how basketball has always been his number one priority. In his remarks, he expressed the pride he has in his children. “He passed away a few months ago from complications related to asthma. He was only thirty-three.” Pippen further wrote, “The courage he displayed in dealing with his health problems reminded me a lot of my brother Ronnie. He never saw himself as a victim.”

“Antron was one of my best friends.” For Pippen, it was difficult, and it took him time to heal. The Bulls legend also mentioned how writing the book was cathartic and kept him busy.

Pippen is the proud father of three daughters, Taylor and Sierra, Sophia, and three sons, Scotty Jr., Preston, and Justin. Scotty Maurice Pippen Jr.’s career is flourishing right now, and he is currently signed to a two-way contract with the South Bay Lakers. Aside from that, his other children have also been making great strides in their careers.
