Talking with former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, Handy revealed that he received offers to join the Warriors. Despite being from Oakland, Handy rejected the Warriors’ coaching job.

Handy said, “You know, I’m from Oakland. The Golden State Warriors had potentially offered me a job. I wasn’t really interested. I had a very prosperous business, work when I want, work when I don’t want.”

After failing to make the playoffs last season, the Lakers underwent some changes. Coach Frank Vogel was sacked and in came Darvin Ham as the new head coach. Phil Handy retained his job and was awarded a contract extension very recently.
