The Brooklyn Nets fell to their second loss of the season. While the Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant duo have looked fantastic to open the season, the Hawks have looked just as threatening. Trae Young is leading the new-look Hawks to a strong start this season and they are materializing their playoff hopes.

While the Nets gave the Hawks their first loss of the season, the Hawks responded in kind with an 18-point thrashing of the Nets. To add insult to injury, third-year player John Collins absolutely demolished Jarrett Allen under the rim on a play.

Collins put Allen, one of the better shot-blocking centers in the league, on a poster. Collins took flight as Allen tried to block the shot from the left side. However, it wasn’t enough, and Collins absolutely demolished the rim with that dunk. Collins has a penchant for explosive dunks and polished off a beautiful off the backboard alley-oop from Trae this game as well.

Brooklyn Nets: Does this loss raise any concerns?

The phrase ‘it’s just one game’ has become a feature of this early season restart. While the season is just 72 games, many teams recognize that they can’t get back into the groove of playing until later into the season. But what the standings say later into the season is a different matter.

The Nets have been one of the few teams to play with a lot of extra effort in these early games to get their season to the right start. So this loss is concerning only because they were completely outfoxed by a conference rival. It was a good effort from the entire Hawks team to slow the Nets down.

The fact that Atlanta contained the Nets to under 100 points is a massive surprise as well. But this team is packed with talent and this is literally just one game. Hopefully, they take this loss well and can rebound next game.
