From 1985 to 1988, Charles Oakley had the honor of playing alongside Michael Jordan at Chicago. In addition, he also played with Scottie Pippen for a year or so, before switching to the New York Knicks. Although he didn’t manage to win a ring, Oakley was always considered a fierce competitor on the court. Pippen acknowledged that his contributions went way beyond his trophy cabinet. But in a recent interview, the 57-year-old may have ignited some heat for some comments in praise of Jordan.
Jordan and Scottie Pippen had an undeniable connection on the court. While MJ averaged over 30 points in his career, Pippen’s supporting efforts acted as a catalyst for the Bulls’ success. In fact, the franchise earned themselves two sets of hat-tricks in the 90s, winning six trophies in the decade. And the Jordan-Pippen combination led a packed Bulls roster towards their iconic run. However, their post-retirement equation hasn’t been the best. As a result, Oakley’s statements may have not boded well with the 7-time All-star.

Charles Oakley repeatedly calls Michael Jordan ‘the best’ in front of Scottie Pippen
Although they weren’t the best of friends, it always seemed like Pippen and Jordan had an amicable relationship. However, things broke down after ‘The Last Dance’ documentary. Going with the tide, Pippen joined many others in claiming that the series solely portrayed ‘His Airness’ well. Following this, the 56-year-old released his memoir ‘Unguarded’, where he has gone on epic rants against the 14-time All-star himself. Added to this, he has dissed Jordan in numerous talks off late.

Pippen recently joined Oakley for a meal, in partnership with Fox. During the course of this interview, the pair discussed multiple topics. In the midst of the meal, Oakley spoke about facing Jordan and the Bulls after leaving them.

In the process, he referred to the 6-time champ as the best on several occasions. “We just tried to get through Michael Jordan and Chicago. I think that you know, they always said the best team wins, especially when you got the best player. And they had two of the best players.” Later on, he quoted again, “They were throwing counters, they could slip and move. That was, you know, they had the best player.”

In spite of his statements, perhaps Scottie Pippen will let this one pass. After all, the duo goes way back, and ‘Pip’ mentioned the mutual respect they have for one another. Also, Oakley definitely isn’t the only person with this opinion. What do you think?
