Giannis Antetokounmpo might be one of the most vicious dunkers NBA has ever seen. The 6’11” forward puts on a show every time he is on the court. Be it his amazing chase down blocks or his underrated passing, the Greek Freak can do it all.

However, the reigning MVP is the most dangerous when he is in a mood to dunk. Be it amazing putback dunks or absolutely humiliating other stars with posterizing dunks or re-creating some iconic ones, the 26-year-old is absolutely breathtaking in the dunking department. Let’s take a look at the top five dunks of the Greek Freak’s career.

On December 27, 2017, Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Bucks met against an OKC Thunder team led by the duo of Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony. The 2017 MVP, Westbrook, was absolutely tearing it up against the Bucks, scoring 40 points.

With four seconds left in the game, the scores were tied, and the Bucks had the possession. Middleton passed it to Giannis, and the Greek Freak absolutely toyed with Josh Hiastus. With a center missing, Westbrook tried to halt his charge, but there was no stopping the two-time MVP who absolutely destroyed Russ.

What made this shot sweeter was that it was the game-winner for Milwaukee, who won 97-95. It wasn’t without controversy though, as Antetokounmpo did step out of bounds. However, he was not called out by the referees before dunking it over Westbrook.

4. Greek Freak scores over 7’0″ footer Rudy Gobert

Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert is arguably one of the best defensive players in the NBA. The Frenchman has won the Defensive Player of the Year trophy twice and is spearheading the Jazz, who are currently leading NBA’s super-competitive Western Conference.

Back in 2017, that clearly wasn’t the case. Utah were a playoff team led by a rookie Donovan Mitchell and Gobert. Understandably, they were no match for the Bucks who had players like Middleton and Giannis.

With 21.2 seconds left on the game clock, Antetokounmpo had the ball as he dribbled by Thabo Shefolasha with ease and jumped over Gobert to put the nail in the coffin. The Bucks ultimately blew out the Jazz 117-110.

3. Giannis Antetokounmpo shows skill against OKC and catches Serge Ibaka on the rim

In his third season in the NBA, Giannis was showing glimpses of superstar potential and had upped his output significantly on the court. Led by a young duo of Khris Middleton and Giannis, the Bucks were looking like a team set for the future.

On March 7, 2016, the young Bucks side were facing off against a Western Conference juggernaut in the OKC Thunder. The Thunder, led by Westbrook and Kevin Durant, looked like a team that could trump the mighty Warriors.

Understandably, the inexperienced Bucks faltered and lost the game 104-96. But it was Giannis who somehow stole the show. After grabbing a defensive rebound, the Greek Freak led the Bucks’ fast break.

Seeing Westbrook up ahead, Giannis pulled off a gorgeous euro step to change his direction and went for a vicious dunk, ultimately catching Serge Ibaka.

2. Antetokounmpo stares down Ben Simmons

On March 18, 2019, the 76ers faced off against a Giannis-led Bucks team who had the best record in the league. With Antetokounmpo playing at an MVP level and the 76ers with the big three of Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid and Jimmy Butler, the league was in for a classic.

With 1:24 seconds left on the clock, Middleton had possession for the Bucks. He immediately gave it to the MVP favorite Giannis who was being guarded by Ben Simmons, arguably one of the best defenders in the NBA.

It seemed like the way to go for the 76ers, but Giannis had a different plan all-together. Antetokounmpo had the night of his life against the 76ers and even Simmons couldn’t stop him as Giannis put a disrespectful dunk over the 6’10” Simmons, earning a foul in the process. The Greek Freak scored a staggering 52 points but ultimately lost the game 130-125.

1. Giannis Antetokounmpo re-creates Vince Carter’s iconic ‘Dunk of Death’

On March 7, 2018, the Bucks were facing off against the New York Knicks. The Knicks were seeing a promising start to the game with Latvian center Kristaps Porzingis scoring 10 points in 11 minutes.

But early in the second quarter, Porzingis had an awkward landing and ultimately ruptured his ACL. With Porzingis gone, the Knicks looked clueless, and the Bucks took control over the game.

After three minutes into the third quarter, Middleton grabbed a defensive rebound and charged down the court. It was a two-on-one with Giannis and Middleton charging against Tim Hardaway Jr.

Middleton knew that the ‘Greek Freak’ was ready to dunk and laid it up for him. Giannis jumped over Tim Hardaway Jr. and thumped it home. It was very similar to the ‘Dunk of Death‘ scored by Vince Carter in the 2000 Olympics. To this day, it remains one of the best dunks by Antetokounmpo.

It is staggering to see the collection of dunks Giannis Antetokounmpo already has. These were just some of the innumerable iconic dunks by the ‘Greek Freak’. Which one is your favorite?
