This story is of the time when Michael Jordan had not made his debut yet. This happened during the summer of 1982 when Michael Jordan was just a rookie. Bill Glass, a Dallas Evangelist, was planning a trip to Carolina as a part of his prison ministry tour. To spice up things, Dallas requested a basketball player for his main act.

Bill Glass called up Dean Smith and asked for a basketball player to accompany him in the act. Jordan showed up for the task although Glass expected big names like Sam Perkins and Jimmy Black. Glass hired an expert martial artist named Mike Crain to show his famous sword trick which involves cutting a watermelon while blindfolded.

Then 19 Jordan confidently walked up to the stage to become a “human chopping board” for Crain. Crain put his blindfolds on and proceeded with the act. Although Crain was able to chop the watermelon perfectly, his sword hit Jordan’s stomach.

The officials immediately rushed Jordan to the medical room, where the doctors closed the wound with three stitches.
