Well today, let’s have a look at Spitfire, a Hound who broke the internet back in 2020 and became ‘The Michael Jordan of Dogs’.

Just before the COVID pandemic stopped the world, there was a legend dominating the sport of dock diving. It was Spitfire and his handler, Sydney, who were breaking one world record after another. To those who might not understand what dock diving is, it is basically a sport where a dog jumps as far and high as possible before going into a pool.

And there was no one like Spitfire in the history of this sport. Between 2016 and 2019, he broke 21 world records, and he secured his status as the GOAT of the sport.

Spitfire, ‘The Michael Jordan of Dogs’ broke another record in 2020

Spitfire came into the family in 2013, and he was a cute pooch with massive eyes. His trainer Sydney felt a deep connection with the dog and she instantly got attached to him. Despite all this, the dog’s insane athletic abilities surprised everyone and his dock diving skills were astounding.

The family learned about the sport in 2016, and they decided to give it a shot. And after a few months, they realized they had something special in their hands. One of the earliest coaches of Spitfire had huge words about him.

They said, “He wasn’t shy, or scared or reserved about it, he just humped into the water. Right away I went ‘just hold on, because this is gonna be fun, like that dog is going to take you places that you would have never imagined.”

It didn’t take long for Spitfire to burst onto the scene as they went across the United States and won title after title. Given there was no one to challenge them, Spitfire and Sydney were unbeatable. But Spitfire wasn’t done just yet. In 2020, he broke the world record again as he jumped over 31 feet into a pool.

Spitfire has dominated the sport similar to His Airness. And he thoroughly deserves the title ‘The Michael Jordan of Dogs’. Spitfire was recently inducted into the 2022 DockDogs Hall of Fame and he still continues to compete at the biggest events in the world.
