The defending champion have had an unexpected start to the season. The Golden State Warriors lost their fifth game of the season to the Miami Heat in what was a thrilling contest. This marks their third loss in a row, and the face of the franchise wants the players to feel the impact. After the game, Stephen Curry had a confident yet alarming message for his teammates as their struggles to find a win continue.

Last season, the dynasty which everyone thought had slept rose back up. The Warriors were never the favorite. And this time, there was no superteam. Steph Curry and his veteran teammates had the right forces by their side. Likewise, doing the unexpected once again, they won their fourth championship in the last eight seasons. However, while the previous year was one that ended in the stuff of dreams, the same can’t be said about the start of this season.

Curry is surely feeling the effects of the loss. The Baby Face Assassin admitted his frustration after losing their third game on the trot.

Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat ensured their coach, Erik Spoelstra has a birthday to remember. In what seemed to be an affair dominated by the Warriors, Miami was able to fight its way back. A clutch performance by Jimmy Butler and a combined team effort to get stops in the fourth quarter came up huge in the 109-116 win for the Eastern Conference giants.

While the Heat goes home with smiles, the same can’t be said about the Golden State Warriors. Two-time MVP, Stephen Curry spoke about playing to a standard, and the last three games haven’t honored the championship banners. Curry said: “There is frustration because we have a standard. That’s good because we’ve had championship banners to show for it, but that uneasiness puts you in a position where you have to figure it out. I hope everybody is frustrated with the results, but the process is pretty solid.”

Despite ending up on the losing side, Stephen Curry kept his elite season going. The reigning Finals MVP dished out 13 assists to go with his 23 points and 13 rebounds. Rising to an All-Star caliber, Andrew Wiggins had yet another 20+ point game scoring 21 in the loss. Klay Thompson added a further 19. However, he is yet to get back to the status of being a lethal shooter as the two-time three-point champion shot just 36% from the floor.

For the Miami Heat, despite missing out on their best scorer, Tyler Herro, their will to fight got them through the line. While Butler’s numbers may not stand out, he was crucial in Miami’s fourth-quarter comeback. Notching up 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists, his late game come-up was critical. However, in the absence of Herro, Max Strus led all the scorers. Putting up 24 points, the undrafted star proves to be valuable in a contending team.

While the season is still young, the champions are feeling the need to perform. They are hoping to climb their way back up from the 12th seed, an unexpected place to be for last year’s champions.
