Weeks After Kevin Durant Trade Request Saga, Unearthed Steve Nash Concerns Show the Ex-MVP May Have Been Right All Along

In light of Steve Nash leaving the Brooklyn Nets, General Manager Sean Marks addressed the media recently. Marks gave fans an insight into some aspects of the discussion between Nash and the Nets organization. Following this, the question of whether Kevin Durant was right all along soon arose. 

Despite registering a win against the Indiana Pacers, the Nets have struggled through the start of the season. During the off-season, reports suggested that Nets point guard and NBA All-Star Kevin Durant had given the organization an ultimatum. It was either him or Steve Nash.

However, KD stayed with the Nets. With this drama-filled tenure, Nash’s departure from the Nets doesn’t come as a surprise for many NBA fans. 

Steve Nash’s concerns

In the press conference, Sean Marks spoke about the thought and discussion behind this decision of mutually parting ways. He stated that Steve Nash opened up about his equation with the team and said, “They’re not responding to me.” 

Having known each other for over 20 years now, Marks and Nash have always had an open and honest dialogue. Reportedly, the two spoke almost daily about the team and their reciprocation to Nash’s ways.

Marks said, “We have fallen from our goals, from meeting our goals and it was time now because we still have lofty aspirations of where we need to get to.” 

Kevin Durant and his ultimatum

Marks clarified during the press meet that none of the Brooklyn Nets players had any input on this decision. He stated that the players were made aware of this action before the press release but had no role in the outcome. 

The question of a player’s involvement arises following the reports about Kevin Durant’s off-season ultimatum. It was suggested that Durant wanted both GM Sean Marks and head coach Steve Nash out of the team.

When the news about Kevin Durant‘s decision to stay with the Nets broke out, talks about a potential rift between KD and Nash began to surface. In spite of this, both parties maintained high standards of professionalism through the start of the season.  

According to some sources, KD didn’t have a specific reason for this demand. But now fans speculate that KD knew all along that Nash’s system wouldn’t work.
