Smart is a great two-way player in the league. As he has been consistent with Boston, he will most likely take the starting point guard position over Dennis Schroder. His hustle on the court makes him an enormous threat to the opposition. Moreover, he is a great shooter. But, it is his defense that the Celtics will need more than anything.
Jaylen Brown (Shooting Guard)
As Brown went down with a wrist injury last year, he missed a good part of the season, causing Boston to go down to the 7th seed.
He and Jayson Tatum form the offensive core of this Celtics. Hence, his performance could be ‘make or break’ for Boston in the coming season.
Frontcourt
Josh Richardson (Small Forward)
Another defensive presence, Richardson also adds size to the lineup. Moreover, he is also a reliable scorer. The Celtics need someone like him on the floor, especially after trading away Kemba Walker in the off-season. Richardson played for the Dallas Mavericks last season, putting up 12 points to go with 1 steal. He is also a 91% free throw shooter.
Jayson Tatum (Power Forward)
Arguably, the best player on the Celtics roster, Tatum, is the centerpiece of the organization. He scored 50 points in their sole win against the Nets in the playoffs. Notably, he even earned praise from Kevin Durant after a successful Olympic Games. Being the primary scorer, he put up 26 points per game last season while shooting 38% from deep.
