“When You Got a Couple Billion Dollars….”: Charles Barkley Admits Being a “Man of the People” Turning Down to Be Michael Jordan

Charles Barkley has been one of the most inspiring NBA veterans to have extended their legacy beyond the confinements of a basketball court. The Phoenix Suns legend is a renowned NBA analyst who is also committed to giving back to his community. Growing up in Alabama, Charles Barkley never expected himself to become such a huge icon worth a $70 million fortune. Recently, Barkley was asked an interesting question that compelled the Suns legend to turn down a hypothetical offer of exchanging his life with Michael Jordan. 

Charles Barkley recently made an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show alongside host Dan Patrick. During the discussions, Patrick asked the 11-time All-Star if he would exchange his life for Michael Jordan’s life. And Barkley’s answer left him stunned.

In the recent edition of the Dan Patrick Show, Patrick told Charles Barkley that the date was 2/3/23, deeming it to be Michael Jordan’s day because the Chicago Bulls legend used to wear the number 23. Barkley responded by claiming that he was pretty sure every day was ‘Michael Jordan Day’. Chuck said, “Hey Dan! When you got a couple billion dollars and you are Michael Jordan. I’m pretty damn sure every day is Michael Jordan day.”

The response prompted a question from Patrick, who asked Barkley if he would trade his life for Michael Jordan‘s life. Moreover, the host also pointed out that Jordan likes to stay private while Barkley is a ‘man of the people’. Chuck replied, “I wouldn’t trade my life for anybody’s life man. Dan I have exceeded, you know, when you grow up in a small town of a couple thousand people in Alabama, you’re not thinking you’re gonna be Charles Barkley.”

Barkley clarified that he was not making any effort to look humble. The NBA legend felt blessed to be who he was and for the journey he has been through.

Barkley is proud of himself

Barkley shared that he was quite proud of who he was and what he had achieved in life. The 60-year-old, who once was MJ’s biggest rival in 1993, is now a successful NBA expert and a dependable pillar to his community.

While looking back on his journey, Charles Barkley said, “I’ve been honored and blessed to be Charles Barkley, man. It’s been pretty cool. Now listen, Michael is the greatest. And LeBron and Kobe and Wayne Gretzky and Federer all these guys are some of the greatest to ever do it.”

The NBA veteran added, “Serena I don’t wanna leave her out but man, hey, hey, as I say so myself sometimes. Man! you did pretty good.” Thus, Barkley felt grateful for his life experiences and did not want to exchange them for Jordan’s.
