Donovan Mitchell is arguably the most consistently growing NBA player currently. For the past four seasons, the Utah Jazz flag bearer has only shown an upward graph in terms of his improving scoring prowess. However, off the court, Spida is struggling to score, especially with a woman.

The 6’1” point guard is still just a 25-YO and has ample time to make a romantic move and find a match for himself. But since most of his counterparts are either engaged or carry babies, the clock might be ticking. So is it that the Utah Jazz hero never had lady luck? Well, that’s not true.

Donovan Mitchell and his stint with former girlfriend 

Reportedly, Spida started dating a woman named Deja Lighty in 2017. Interestingly, that was the same year when the Denver Nuggets had picked Donovan Mitchell at #13 and sent him to Utah in a swap. 

The proof of his relationship (now deleted) was the pictures Mitchell had earlier uploaded on his social media handles. The caption to those deleted pictures had allegedly defined Deja as, “my girl” and “partner in crime”. Notably, today they only have the screenshots to those posts as proof, one of which said, “Me n U” showing the couple enjoying coziness by the fireside. 

Moreover, Deja had dropped a picture on her Instagram on December 13, 2018, where she was in the Vivint Arena, cheering for the Jazz game. Turns out it was also her 23rd birthday and she was also rooting for Utah forward Royce O’Neale. Earlier that year, the cameras also captured her carrying Donovan’s Slam Dunk Contest trophy, making heads turn.

Who is Deja Lighty?

Although both Spida and Deja stopped dating beyond the fall of 2019, it is important to know her background. Deja Lighty is a sports enthusiast, and she successfully entered the business side after completing Sports Management from Temple University. As her first opportunity, the lady worked as an account executive for the Cleveland Cavaliers while also seeing Donovan.

Perhaps the long-distance relationship took a toll after a while and the two broke apart. Later, Deja became a Community Manager for Jones Road Beauty and currently is active as an IG model. 

But most interestingly, Deja is a celebrity daughter of the late hip-hop vet Chris Lighty. Back in 2012, Chris committed suicide after a heated argument with his wife while their daughter was still a teenager. So yes, Deja has come a long way and if she ever gets back with Donovan, it’d be great to see two lovebirds ironing out their differences.
