The NBA offseason did not take time to kick in as the Lakers acquired Russell Westbrook. In addition, there are some big names who have opted out of their player option and may look for new teams. Players like Kawhi Leonard, Chris Paul, and DeMar DeRozan are free agents.

Chris Paul and Phoenix have made a special bond. They took CP3 to his first-ever NBA finals. Unfortunately, they lost but it was an impressive run. They defied all odds and made it to the center stage. However, Chris has declined his player option with the Phoenix Suns making himself available to other teams.

Amidst Strong Interest From the Lakers, Could a Return to the Knicks Be on the Cards for Carmelo Anthony?

Chris Paul likely to re-sign with Phoenix

According to Jordan Schutz, the teams he has spoken to have said that CP3 is likely to return with the Suns. Hence, they have no clear reason to pursue him even though he is a free agent. Chris Paul is likely to look for a longer duration contract with the Suns.

Hence, this may be a part of the process. After their Conference finals win, Chris Paul gave a heartfelt speech about how much the organization means to him as well. He saw success in the playoffs after a very long time. He averaged 19 points and almost 9 assists in the playoffs.

However, numbers don’t do his role justice. He is the leader of this organization. The Suns broke their 10-year playoff drought as soon as CP3 came in. He taught this team how to compete and win as a team. Moreover, Chris Paul and Devin Booker became one of the most lethal backcourt duos in the NBA.

So him leaving them does seem unlikely. But if he does, where can he go?

Who can sign CP3?

The first team that comes to mind when you hear star and free agent is the New York Knicks. The Knicks are looking to recruit as many stars in this off-season as they can. Moreover, they have the cap space to make multiple signings possible. Also, they have a young team similar to the Suns. This is where the genius of Paul comes into play. A trio of RJ Barrett, Julius Randle, and Chris Paul could work wonders if they come together.

The other team would be New Orleans Pelicans. Former number 1 pick, Zion Williamson may lose his point guard this offseason as Lonzo is also a free agent. Moreover, their whole team comprises upcoming players. Brandon Ingram has been the breakout star as he has averaged almost 24 points for the past 2 seasons. However, they need a leader like Chris Paul who can help them compete.
