“I even said to him one time, ‘I want to play you,.’ He was like, ‘Hm, I’m not ready yet.’ That’s what he said, ‘I’m not ready yet.’ … I was dead serious.”

No disrespect to Idris but he's not close to being the actor anybody would choose to play Jordan. The only way that would happen is if Lifetime had the rights to produce the biopic.

Both MJ and Will Smith have had quite an extensive career. They both have also been involved in several controversies and this could give Smith the insight needed to play Jordan.
