WNBA star Brittney Griner was once married to fellow WNBA star Glory Johnson. But the marriage was short-lived, which turned the lives of the two and their families upside down. Some of Johnson’s family members were against the marriage of the two basketball stars and her father did not even attend the wedding.
However, Johnson’s mother attended the wedding and blessed the newlywed couple. But her mother did not think her daughter would marry a woman one day.

Mercy Johnson, mother of the former Dallas Wings star once opened up about her daughter’s marriage with Griner, another woman. She disclosed that she did not expect her youngest child to marry first, also a woman. Interestingly, Johnson only dated men before indulging with Griner. But things changed after meeting the towering center.

Before the wedding, Johnson’s mother prayed, looking at the sky. She prayed for a pour down as a sign that God didn’t want the wedding to happen. But the sky was clear, so she said that “the good lord approved it.”

“You want your child to be happy — you have to love them and stand by them,” Mercy Johnson said as she watched her daughter and Griner pose for photographs under the wedding canopy. “That’s why I’m here. And she looks happy.” But Johnson’s father did not attend the wedding.
Johnson once talked about her family members advising her not to marry the Phoenix Mercury star due to their altercation, which resulted in their arrest.

After getting engaged, the couple had an argument that turned into an ugly fight which resulted in minor injuries to both. Glory Johnson’s sister was shaken as she watched the whole ordeal unfold in front of her eyes. And she called 911 to report the altercation. The police arrested the lovers for domestic violence. Johnson said that she tried to calm Griner down, but she was not able to. So she was angry as she felt that she was arrested because of her fiance.
However, the two mended things soon and married one month later. But after 1 month of marriage, Griner filed for an annulment. The appeal was denied, so they were left with the only option of a divorce. And a few months later, they were divorced.
